In a pretty much quick move, probably in order to assuage anxious employees, following the squabble between Tata Group and Cyrus Mistry, the organization has appointed S Padmanabhan, as its new chief human resource officer (CHRO). It was earlier reported that the former HR head of Tata Group, S Rajan, brought from EY, three years’ back resigned right after Mistry’s ouster as chairman of Tata Sons.
The sudden exit of a HR head from an organization which is already going through a rugged path, following the ouster of its chairman, can have a huge impact on the morale of the people. Therefore, for the Tata Group, the appointment of S Padmanabhan at this juncture is definitely critical. Implementation of internal communication strategies is a must for an organization that is undergoing any kind of crisis.
Padmanabhan who chairs the Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG), had kick-started the process of taking the group, towards overall business excellence. According to sources, he will continue to oversee TBEXG as well.
Padmanabhan is also the chairman at the board of Tata Consulting Engineering (TCE), a complete subsidiary of the Tata Sons. It will be interesting to see whether he introduces a whole new concept along with fresh HR policies or extends on the path that was already lead by Rajan.
Padmanabhan’s experience in the domain of HR comes from his years’ served at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as HR director. As per the Tata Group’s website, his career with the organization at senior executive positions began way back in 1982 with TCS and spans more than three decades.
On a global platform, Padmanabhan’s portfolio encompasses customer management, project management and diverse, global workforce management. He also played a lead role during the launch of TCS IPO.
